Our Family love the festive season. We really do. Over the years we have introduced new traditions to help us celebrate the run up to Christmas. As a Family we try to make December a really magical month filled with even more love, new experiences and merriment.
Here’s our top tips to help you start some new traditions for your own Family:
Buy a new glittery Christmas decoration for your tree with the year on it. Keep adding to the collection with every year that passes.
Invest in a large advent calendar with pockets and hang it over your living room door. Use a tub of your favourite sweets to fill each pocket with a sweet for each family member.
Have a family night on the sofa slurping luxury homemade hot chocolate topped with marshmallows while wearing snuggly pyjamas and watching Elf or Santa Paws. Switch off all devices.
Forget about creepy Elf on the Shelf and treat your Family to a luxurious hand made Elf. If you can afford to, buy one for each child so that you can pass them on when they have their own families.
Visit the Continental Market in Belfast and put the children on the Merry Go Round - take lots of photos. Visit the crepe stall and indulge in some chocolate & marshmallow crepes with a cup of hot chocolate. Then visit the big candyland stall and buy some colourful candy canes.
Hop up warm and attend your City/Town/Village annual Christmas tree light switch on. Take a family selfie with the tree as your backdrop.
Treat your Family to an unforgettable breakfast with Santa. Invite the Grandparents too and have a Family photo with the big man himself.
Have a toy clear out and donate unwanted, but good condition, ones to a charity shop. Then write letters to Santa while eating Christmas cookies and listening to Christmas music.
Throw a child friendly Saturday afternoon Christmas Jumper party, dance about to cheesy Christmas tunes and serve up mince pies with cream and hot chocolate.
Help your children make delicious hot chocolate cones for their cousins and Grandparents. Just fill a cone bag with 3 spoonfuls of hot chocolate powder, add two scoops of smarties and top with two scoops of mini marshmallows. Tie with decorative ribbon. It’s lovely delivering these the day before Christmas Eve to be used as Christmas Eve treats.
Find out what time the ISS (International Space Station) will be passing over our skies on Christmas Eve. Have the Family keep an eye out for it and tell them it’s Santa riding through the sky.
Is there anything you would add to the list? Let us know.
Above everything else, have a truly magnificent Christmas with all your loved ones.
Lots of love, the Mums NI Team
