So who else has got lots of toilet roll tubes lying around? Ours never seem to make it to the recylcing bin, they always just line up on the toilet cistern for some reason.  Maybe it's because about 7 years ago I once said "keep those toilet roll tubes for the craft box". Who knows?

For this Craft Hub we are going to be making use of those tubes to make friendly Robot characters.  For each child taking part in this activity you will need:

x1 toilet roll tube
some paint, we choose silver
x1 foam rectangle shape
x2 googly eyes of different sizes
x8 beads, sequins, or hamma beads
bit of scrap paper

You will also need some PVA glue

This craft is perfect for a lazy sunday afternoon. Children of all ages will really enjoy using their imagination to come up with different characters. Maybe they could create characters of varying sizes and stick them together to make a desk tidy?

Enjoy

Step 1

For each child taking part in this activity you will need:

x1 toilet roll tube
some paint, we opted for silver
x1 foam rectangle shape
x2 googly eyes of different sizes
x8 beads, sequins, or hamma beads (we used hamma beads)
bit of scrap paper

You will also need some PVA glue

Step 2

Paint the toilet roll tube in a layer of paint in your chosen colour. We opted for a metalic silver for this character.

Step 3

Next, glue your sequins, beads or hamma beads onto your foam rectangle shape. When that's done, glue the retangle onto the front of the toilet roll tube.

Step 4

Now it's time to stick on the eyes. Look at your robot, it's starting to take shape!

Step 5

It's arm making time.  Cut two strips of paper off your paper scrap and fold them to create zig-zag (accordian) shapes. This can be quite a fiddly task for children but it will help build up their hand eye co-ordination.

Step 6

Glue your arms on to the toilet roll tube and draw on a mouth. Now your robot is ready for action!

We hope you enjoyed this month's Craft Hub.
