There are many ways to feel safe and many places that we can go to where judgement doesn't exist or where at least we don't feel the strain of discrimination or separation. This comfort of acceptance, this safe place is necessary if we want to live well and be there for others. A refuge is anything or anyone who protects, cares for, or uplift us. Our refuge might be a pet, a person, a place, the sea, a good film, a warm and cosy fire, music. We can also find refuge in memories and in knowing that we are loved. In the flow of our day, we can slow down and connect with the everyday pleasant experiences of life. If we let them sink in and take time to savour them, they can become an inner resource. They get woven into the fabric of who we are. We can find shelter from the storm of life by having faith in whatever is good inside us.
