We believe that the health and wellbeing of every family is inextricably linked to the health and wellbeing of the parents. It is estimated that 1 in 10 parents will suffer with a mental illness after the birth of a child, though this figure may actually be closer to 1 in 5. In Northern Ireland, 80% of women will have no access to specialist care if they are diagnosed with a perinatal mental illness.
Our conference aims to educate and raise awareness of perinatal mental health issues and to encourage collaboration to improve services for families in Northern Ireland living with a mental illness. We are bringing together people from a wide range of backgrounds from parents to health professionals to politicians with the aim of ensuring that every parent suffering can get access to the right care at the right time.
This event is co-ordinated by a group of five volunteers who are passionate about this particular topic. We believe that the power of collaboration can help us make a real difference and we invite you all to join us in making sure families in Northern Ireland are receiving the care they deserve during one of the most challenging times in their lives.
