Ear piercings on a baby?

https://youtu.be/SVmlJJyLIX8\r\n\r\nOkay so this video is doing the rounds again. It first surfaced around 9 months ago and it's now back in the limelight. \r\n\r\nSome call it child abuse, others say it's cute and the NHS say its a perfectly safe procedure to carry out. \r\n\r\nWhat do you think of it?

I strongly believe that ear piercing is one of those things that should not be imposed upon a child until they are old enough to make the decision themselves rationally and free from peer pressure. As all who have had piercings done will know, it is not pain free and for some can be very traumatic. What right does a parent have to carry out what is effectively an elective body mutilation upon their child for the sake of what is in reality, their own vanity and obsession with beauty?

I hate them personally. I think they look tacky on babies and small children. My 18 year old refuses to have her ears pierced even now - she doesn't like earrings!

Your daughter is a perfect case in point. If you as a parent had decided to get her ears pierced for her when she was young, you would have taken away her right to chose for herself. Not getting them done turns out to have been the right choice for her.
